To Remove or Not to Remove: Tattooers on Tattoo Removal | Tattoo Artists React

Bad tattoos, we all have them. The question is, what should we do about them? This time around we ask our panel of artists if they’ve ever had any of their tattoos removed. Those who’ve been on the business end of a laser told us about the process, while those who haven’t explained why they’ve avoided tattoo removal. Let us know if you’ve had any tattoos removed down in the comments.

Normally we film Tattoo Artists React at a tattoo convention. We spend two days running around, grabbing people from their booths and asking them a bunch of different questions. COVID obliterated all of our plans, but we pressed on! During lockdown the only way the Inked team talked to each other was via video chat, so we figured, why not do the same thing for our beloved Tattoo Artists React series. Naturally, there were some challenges. It’s a little awkward not being in the room with our friends. And everybody’s home technology set-up is wildly different, so the perfectionist in us was a bit peeved about video quality. That being said, connecting and speaking with some of our favorite tattooers was invigorating. It was especially nice to talk about all of the nutty experiences that take place in tattoo shops around the world at a time when they were all closed. This season looks a lot different from any of the prior seasons, but that’s OK. You’ll still be laughing until your insides hurt at Kelly’s stories, you’ll still coo at every pet that ends up on screen and you’ll still be able to argue with each other in the comment section.   2. It hurts but it’s manageable. I’ve done 4 sessions and i am seeing progress it’s slowly degrading away , probably 5 or 6 more sessions it’ll be gone.

I have coloured stats on the back of my arm at the bottom and I'm starting a black and grey sleeve, I'm unsure what to do cos I don't know if what I want will go over what I have, I'm kind of telling my self it will so I don't have to get removal but I think I'm gonna have to lazer it to at least get it faded

  15. I’m currently getting a tattoo removed because it’s extremely cliche, I want something else, and it reminds me of the bad experience I had getting the tattoo. I was 19, I felt pressured by everyone there, the artist was unprofessional and I was with my abusive ex while getting it. I feel like I’m taking control of my body and now any art I put on myself will only be for me. The removal hurts but it’s such a liberating experience. Kind of a hurt to heal thing.

  16. I had necrophiliac blasted across my chest about 12 years ago, still don't regret it. Have a shitty, backwards (on purpose) old crow on my wrist, it's a reminder of times gone by. I'll keep 'em

  19. Don't get a tat bc it's 'cool' get a tattoo bc ur f*d up one night and ur buddy got a machine or get something that means something to you personally. Period. Otherwise ur doing it to 'be cool' which is super lame!

  20. My laser isn’t working. I’ve had 13 sessions so far and that crap is still dark, and it isn’t cheap. I was told that most people are done by now and it doesn’t even look half way. So glad I bought a package. Doing PICO on my ankles btw.

  21. My brother had to get a tattoo removed cuz he's a State Trooper and it shows below his sleeve when he's in his uniform. He should have removed the whole thing cuz it looks stupid. Lol

  34. Idk why but I really dislike the guy with the glasses and gold chains (I think he’s dating Danielle). He’s constantly celebrity name dropping and you can tell he subscribed to the “hustle culture” cult

  35. There are plenty of natural ways to break the ink pigments and make a tattoo less visible. I tried myself. But it can take time depend if it's big or small tat. You have to inform yourself a lot too, what to use and how.

  39. Not all tattoo's are removed because they are "bad".
    Personally I've had 4 removed now. One because I had an allergic reaction to the ink, which left the tattoo looking horrific (was just a black and grey thistle on the inside of my ankle).
    The other 3 were on either shoulder blade and the centre of the top of my back. I had these removed for my wedding. Not because I didn't like them, but because my Mum hates tattoo's and she would of been staring at them throughout. I would get the same ones put back (it's been almost 7 years since I was married) but I think it's an opportunity to have something different!
    I also have 2 cover ups. One on my left arm that was a very old tattoo that had lost its colour and definition years ago
    The other was meant to be a butterfly at one point, but we never finished it, so I got a huge Japanese phoenix to cover it.
    We should definitely loose the stigma of getting laser treatment, and accept that people change!

  40. Had my huge neck tattoo laser removed. It took 7 double sessions (laser, wait 20 minutes, they do it again, all with lidocaine injections) and it was $1800. And the tattoo is totally gone.
