A Day in the Life of a Tattoo Artist

Mike Soria from Angels and Kings Collective Tattoo Studio joins the show with Scott Darling to talk about what it’s like being a tattoo artist. We get into how he started tattooing for a career, the craziest place he has ever put a tattoo on a customer, the overhead costs to owning a studio, and more.

  1. Famous leg Greg in Gary Indiana I don’t know if he did the dragon tattoo or just took the picture because he was also a photographer but he had it in his shop also the hand over the knuckles was rough but just the top of the hand wasn’t to bad. I got tattooed in Florida at 16 had to have a notery stamp for my dad to take me but that was26 year’s ago.

  2. I’ve been following these Chicago guys since day 1 with eddy in the kickball game.. gotta say, this was by far my favorite dog walk episode of all time and I’m not even a tattoo guy. Guest was fantastic. Darling asked some great questions and fit in perfectly for this. As always, eddy easily kept everything flowing smoothly. Barstool better open the books for these guys because I’m sure they can be self sufficient at this point without needing barstool and deservedly so.

  3. WRONG WRONG WRONG – now that I got your attention, everything he said about getting your “dragon” tattooed is false. You don’t do it hard AT ALL, but actually soft and stretched out, this whole thing about a GF being a fluffed is complete BS too. Look up an interview on YouTube or just google it to understand the full process if interested. I’m sure this guy is a good artist but kind of weird to lie about this, maybe he just heard it from a friend…

  4. Never understand owners. He wants an established artists with their own clientele. Every shop in America wants that because it is guaranteed 250k a year income which the artist is paying the shop 30% to 50%.

  5. What a great interview with an amazing tattoo artist. Mike has tattooed several of my family members who actually recommended him. I had been wanting to get a tattoo myself and it couldn’t have picked a better person to do it than Mike. Mike specializes in big pieces but he was super nice and agreed to do mine. I got an Owl on my wrist which is definitely smaller compared to the work he does. The entire process was seamless from the time he printed out the drawing to get it to the perfect size, he asked me questions as to why I chose to get my first tattoo on my wrist which is a sensitive area. It really made me feel comfortable and confident of choosing him to do my tattoo. I absolutely hate pain and I’m a baby although I’m a mother and have gone through pain which definitely does not compare or come close to getting a tattoo, Mike made sure I was ready and after he started asked if I was ok, how was the pain. I don’t know what it is but his hand is so light it’s like almost if he was tattooing in the air…when I tell you it didn’t hurt one bit I mean that was less painful than getting my tongue pierced when I was 18. I absolutely love my tattoo and can’t wait to get another one. I have bragged about his work and just how amazing he is. My coworkers have gone to him and he’s done amazing pieces for them one being a complete arm sleeve of lions that represented her family. It’s super realistic. Hopefully when I decide what I want he can squeeze me in and I’m lucky enough to get an appointment. If you haven’t seen his work check out his IG, his work speaks for itself period! You can spend a great amount of time just scrolling through the amazing pieces he’s done. I promise you if you don’t have a tattoo it will sure make you want to get one.

  6. Been getting tattooed by Mike for about 7 years now. Hands down one of the most talented and hardest working people I know. Honor to share many hours and conversations with him.
